What is a Functional Health Analysis?
A Functional Health Analysis (also commonly referred to as the practice of Functional Medicine) is a science-based whole body system approach to health addressing the underlying causes of disease. Disease affects the structure and function of the body producing clinical symptoms in which a Functional Health Analysis helps determine the fundamental cause. The patient’s condition can be analyzed through blood work, urine, salivary, stool, and hair analysis along with an extensive history report. Upon evaluation, nutrition, supplements, and overall lifestyle modifications are thoroughly discussed.
Why would I need a nutrition consultation?
If you’ve ever considered a change in your current lifestyle habits, or if you’re just tired of always feeling run down, it may be time to evaluate what type of food and supplements you utilize to fuel your body and your brain. Every individual is different, even at the biochemical level, so what works for one person may not work for the other. Dr. Charlotte is dedicated to putting the puzzle pieces together to help find the root cause of your condition and can help you understand how to support the underlying physiology so your body can start to heal from within.
Will I be put on a diet?
Every patient’s goals are different. Each consultation involves a very throughout evaluation to determine areas in your current diet that may be affecting your overall physiology. Most patients are unaware of certain nutrients they may be lacking in order to achieve a higher level of health or are taking supplements their body simply does not need. Dr. Charlotte evaluates what each individual body needs to function optimally and helps encourage lifestyle modifications that are easy to assimilate in your daily life. As the body begins to heal, certain diet restrictions can be reassessed to determine true food sensitivities that may be causing your health concerns.
What can I expect?
History Gathering & Exam:
We always begin with a 90-minute Initial Visit that includes a detailed history and exam to determine a starting point for our treatment plan. Dr. Charlotte utilizes muscle testing to screen potential food sensitivities to help jump start the healing process by eliminating excess inflammation. Depending on the current concerns and goals of each patient, we follow up with ordering appropriate lab work to provide objective data that helps guide our treatment recommendations.
Report of Findings & Treatment Plan:
Once the lab work has been received by our office, Dr. Charlotte takes the time to write up a comprehensive report and treatment plan. At your second visit, expect to spend about 45-60 minutes with Dr. Charlotte as she helps you review and understand your lab work, correlating the results with your initial exam findings. She will discuss with you any primary concerns with your results and make recommendations to help get you to your optimal level of health. Supplementation and lifestyle changes are evaluated in further detail during this process.
Follow-up:
As we progress through the treatment plan, occasional follow-up visits are needed to determine whether changes to our current treatment are needed and to track our progress toward your goals. Follow-up visits are generally 30-45 minutes and will review changes in symptoms, re-evaluate any necessary muscle tests, and periodically include additional lab work to help track our progress. Any additional recommendations are made at that time.
